An Org Merge can start off on the wrong foot if you don’t plan properly. It’s important to create a sense of confidence that the merger is well-organized and values everyone’s time. In this blog post, we will discuss the essential steps to get off to a good start.

Start the ramp phase right
1. List all sessions that need to be held and their required audience. Make sure to get validation from others in the organization to avoid missing any important topics. Bonus points for gathering and distributing relevant materials beforehand, to make the meetings go more smoothly.
2. Start off with a kickoff session. Bring together everyone who will be involved and explain why the org merge is happening, the timeline, and what they need to do.
3. Don’t forget to get people excited! Even though org merges can be tough, remember that it will ultimately result in a solution that makes everyone’s lives easier.
After requirement gathering sessions
4. Document, document, document. After each session, make sure all action items, decisions, and risks are documented.

5. Assets. User Stories, Sprint Plan, Field Mapping Workbook, Data Migration Strategy. Look out for my upcoming post on 6 Assets for a Successful Org Merge.
6. Roadmap. Remember that you can’t tackle everything at once. Before completing ramp, ensure that you can clearly explain what you will accomplish and when.
7. Solution Presentation. Everyone who has participated in ramp should be given an update on where you landed with the solution. Make sure to tailor your presentations based on the audience. For example, you may want to organize a higher-level tactical session for executives.
By following these steps and considerations, you can increase the chances of a successful org merge.
